When I arrived on the delivery suite I was three cms dilated, it was a start but knew I had a long way to go.

I gave Birth to Samuel Thomas Keen at 22.25, he wasn't small at all, he weighed 6lb 1oz, for a baby that was born three weeks early that seemed a good weight.

Samuel was a slow feeder, he was admitted to the children's ward the day after we were released from the maternity ward, he had to have a drip down his nose to fed  him. After abt 24 hours he decided to pull the tube out and decided that drinking from his bottle was alot nicer than the tube.

samuel was taken away from us, he suddenly passed away in his sleep. Why??????? we ask ourselves over and over again. was there  something we missed????????? at the moment we do not know what took our son's life.
The hardest thing to understand is that samuel had seem to be the healthiest he had ever been, yes he had chicken pox but the scabs were coming off, we thought he was nearly over it. so what killed him?????? something we do not know

Nearly three months after he died we finally find out answers, friday 16th september. we had a meeting with samuel's paedtrician
to discuss the post mortem report, samuel died from serious complications from chicken pox. If you are like us and you thought chicken pox was nothing nowadays soemthing that children get and get over it and that's the end of it. Yes well that is what happens with most people but unfortunately not for our son. There is four complications that you can get from chicken pox and our son had two of them.Your thinking what sort of complications, well the two that samuel had was something called focal myocarditis, this is a virus which causes the heart to beat irregular and then it just stops. the other complication that he got from chicken pox's was a blood clot at the back of his brain which caused him to have a stroke. The paedatrician said that is more the myocarditis that killed him than the stroke. Both of the complications happened very quickly and he wouldnt have felt any of it, this is about the only thing we are gald of, is that he didn't suffer any pain and suffering.
We are glad that we now know why he died but it is still hard to digest it and admit that there was nothing we could have done for him.
